Great enthusiasm for the first Clane RFC Schools' Blitz!

Over the last couple of months, John Monroe and Ciaran McCarthy have been coaching in Staplestown, Allenwood, and Coill Dubh primary schools as part of the CCRO programme. This was devised by Leinster Rugby in order to increase engagement in rugby and promote the game to children who may not have player before. Our coaches have received rave reviews from children and teachers alike, and their hard work came to fruition on Wednesday.

Students from all three schools were provided buses by the club to come down and take part in our first schools’ blitz of the year. Games were on constantly, and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Food was provided, and the children managed to eat it all before Leo the Lion could steal it! The event ran smoothly, with all of the kids being given the chance to play in our club, most of them for the first time. The Transition Year students from Scoil Mhuire Clane were essential, helping to keep all of the games running and keeping everyone involved.

A massive thank you to all involved with the club who came down to help us on Wednesday, especially our TY students. We hope to continue these blitzes in future, and all help is invaluable. The event couldn’t have happened without John and Ciaran, who deserve great credit for helping to grow the game and our club. Thanks to Leinster Rugby for their continued support and for loaning us Leo for a day! The support offered by Croi Laighean, our club sponsor, has also been invaluable. A final thank you to the schools and children involved for making the day a brilliant celebration of our sport. We hope to see some of you down at the club again. If your son or daughter enjoyed the day and would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact us! U10 and U12 girls train on Tuesday evenings at 7-8pm, and our U7 to U12 teams train every Wednesday from 7-8pm!
