a Player

Back one Clane player for the season. When their team scores, you give a little. When they do not, you give nothing. On the biggest day of the year it still costs you €5.

Opens with the new season in September
How it works

Three steps, then forget about it.

Clane RFC is putting a proper clubhouse on the pitch we have played on for forty years. Growing Together is how the whole club chips in, a little at a time, across a whole season.

  1. 01
    Pick a player

Every squad from U13 up to the Senior Men and Senior Women is listed. Choose your own child, a neighbour's, or simply a player you like watching. More than one person can back the same player.

  2. 02
    They play

Every point their team scores adds 50 cent to your pledge. Scores come straight from the official Leinster Rugby results, so nobody in the club has to count anything or chase anyone.

  3. 03
    One payment a week

Every Monday morning your week's rugby is added up and taken as a single payment, with a receipt by email. There is nothing to collect and nothing to hand in at the clubhouse.

What it costs

Real games, real numbers.

Three Saturdays, and what each one would actually take from a 50 cent pledge.

  • Clane beat Birr 31 to 0
31 points is €15.50, so the cap does the work
    €5.00
  • A tight one, Clane score 8
8 points at 50 cent each, under the cap
    €4.00
  • A wet day, held scoreless
    No points, no charge
    €0.00

Your season is capped as well as your Saturday. The total you can ever be charged is €5 multiplied by the number of games your player's team is scheduled to play, which works out at roughly €85 across a full season. Once you hit it, the charges stop and the pledge simply runs on for the pride of it.

Where it goes

Into the ground, not into a platform.

Clane RFC built and runs this itself. No fundraising company takes a percentage, and the only deduction is the bank charge on the card payment.

80%
The club development fund

The clubhouse, the pitches and the facilities every squad shares. This is the fund the whole project exists to fill.

20%
Your player's own team

A fifth of everything a squad raises goes straight back to that squad, for gear, for buses, for the things coaches currently pay for out of their own pockets.

Before you worry

You are never on the hook.

  • A hard ceiling every game
€5 is the most any single game can cost you. A cricket score against a weak side costs you exactly the same as a one point win.
  • A hard ceiling every season
You are told your season maximum before you agree to anything, and you can never be charged a cent above it.
  • Stop whenever you like
One email to the club ends the pledge. Nothing further is taken and nobody will ring you about it.
  • The club never sees your card
Card details are held by Stripe, the same payments company behind a great many Irish online checkouts. No volunteer ever handles your card number.
Questions

The ones people ask.

What if my player is injured or does not get on?

The pledge follows their team, not their minutes. Your player keeps their sponsor through injury, rotation and a run of games on the bench, and you are charged on what the team scores.

Which teams can I sponsor?

Every squad whose games are officially scored, so U13 up through the Youths and Girls to the Senior Men and Senior Women. Minis games are not scored, so the Minis have their own fundraiser coming separately.

Can a player have more than one sponsor?

Yes, and we hope most of them will. Every sponsor has their own separate €5 cap, so nobody is competing with anybody.

Do I have to be a parent?

Not at all. Grandparents, past players, neighbours and local businesses are all welcome to back a player.

How do I know what I have been charged?

Every weekly payment sends you a receipt showing the games it covers and the score in each one. Nothing is taken without a line of explanation behind it.

Our Sponsors

In good company

Growing Together sits alongside the businesses that already back Clane RFC. They keep the lights on and the gear on backs. Sponsoring a player puts you on the same wall.
