U14 Kestrels Do Double in Donnybrook

Our U14 Kestrels staged a remarkable comeback to win the U14 Plate in Donnybrook on Monday 2nd May. Coming off the back of their league final victory last week, the team travelled with high hopes of more silverware this season.

Their opponents were New Ross, and the Wexford outfit were a formidable opponent on the day. Clane brought a great crowd to Energia Park, and they saw their team ahead 7-0 at half time.

The tide had turned in the second half however, and Clane were down 7-22 with just 10 minutes to go. They weren’t about to lie down however. They blitzed New Ross in those closing moments, but were still behind with seconds left. They scrambled over with the last play of the game, sealing their victory and a fantastic double for the team.

Kestrels are an amalgamated team with North Kildare, and we would like to thank the club for their support on this successful merger.

Thanks also to Leinster Youths and Energia Park for hosting a great occasion, and to the Westgrove Hotel for their sponsorship.

Final thanks to New Ross for their sportsmanship and for providing such an absorbing game.

Congratulations to all of the boys, the coaches, and parents for their efforts throughout the season!
