Gorey U18 10-24 Wolves U18: Winning ways in Wexford
On a crystal clear but cold morning, the Wolves arrived in Gorey RFC.
2 minutes after the game started Gorey took the lead with a well run in try. Wolves picked themselves straight back up and before the 5th minute the score was tied, thanks to a try by Anna Brennock.
After a long back and forth with multiple held up try attempts, Aimee Breen took the ball over for another try towards the end of the first half; quickly followed by Gorey scoring their second to close out the half with the game remaining tight.
The Wolves gained the wind behind them in the second half. They benefitted from some excellent tackles and rucking, and saw even more tries denied by their opponents, before Breen went over again for her second try which was successfully converted by Roisin.
With five minutes left to go a series of well timed passes combined with some hard running saw Nicole Fanning cross the line to score Wolves fourth try of the game which was also converted.
Sterling defensive work by the whole team managed to hold Gorey about 5 metres short of the line as they pushed for another try. They eventually won a penalty to allow them to clear their lines, and kept the ball out of the 22 for the remaining few minutes to run out 24-10 winners.
